MMDA-3a, also known as 2-methoxy-3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine or as 2-methoxy-MDA, is a psychedelic drug of the amphetamine family.^[1][2] It is the 2-methoxy derivative of 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA).^[1] The drug produces hallucinogenic effects in humans.^[1] Its dose is listed as 20 to 80 mg orally and its duration as 10 to 16 hours in Alexander Shulgin‘s book PiHKAL (Phenethylamines I Have Known and Loved).^[1][2] A higher dose of 100 mg was also reportedly explored and doses of 80 to 100 mg were said to be very similar to 100 μg LSD.^[1] The chemical synthesis of MMDA-3a has been described.^[1][2] MMDA-3a is a positional isomer of MMDA and hence is a Schedule I controlled substance in the United States.^[2] It is also a controlled substance in Canada under phenethylamine blanket-ban language.^[3]
